In January regional kickoff events are held all over the country. Teams pick up identical robot kits and have just six weeks to build! The idea is for each team to create a unique robot capable of performing the same, predetermined challenge. In the 2008 competition, FIRST Overdrive, robots were to race around a track knocking down 40" inflated trackballs, then move the balls around the track and pass them over or under a 6'6" overpass. Teams scored extra points if their robots could re-position the balls on the overpass during the 2-minute and 15-second matches.
