Alzheimer's: The Cost of Growing Old
This trailer promotes "Alzheimer's: The Cost of Growing Old," a KPBS and Envision San Diego one-hour special exploring the lives of people living with Alzheimer's Disease. You will meet people in the early stages of the disease who describe their symptoms before they were diagnosed. They talk about moments of confusion, and of feeling lost. They tell you what they fear most, even more than dying, is forgetting the people they love. In this dramatic one hour, family members describe watching their spouses, and their parents slowly lose their memories and ability to function in daily life. It is a disease that takes its toll emotionally and financially. Caregivers who keep their family members at home spend more than $100000 to care for loved ones for the duration of the disease. Alzheimer's disease is becoming more and more common; especially in a society so intent on chasing longevity. The biggest risk factor for getting this disease is age. There is no cure.
