First Lady Michelle Obama gave the commencement address at the University of Northern Iowa on Saturday, May 7, 2011 in the UNI-Dome. Her audience included nearly 2-thousand new graduates, their families and UNI faculty and staff members. Mrs. Obama, who grew up in Chicago, studied sociology and African-American studies at Princeton University followed by a degree from Harvard Law School. Her career has included work for AmeriCorps, Chicago City Hall, a Law firm, and the University of Chicago. Since becoming First Lady, she has been leading efforts to reduce childhood obesity and to encourage volunteerism and community service.
