In this true story from Free To Choose Network's "Ultimate Resource," a Ghanian girl dreams of becoming a doctor. Her father, a simple fisherman, is not content with the educational status quo. He wants better for Victoria. Despite his meager income living in one of the poorest areas on earth, the father decides to send Victoria to a private school. And even though government schools are the norm in Ghana, private schools are taking hold. This story of individual empowerment features commentary from James Tooley -- one of the most compelling voices doing scholarship in global education reform. Tooley concludes that competition is a good thing and urges us to put aside ideological baggage in order to do what's best for the world's children.
