Program: The Iowa Journal #159
Broadcast Date: May. 19, 2008
Gas prices are climbing it seems every day and approaching the $4 mark. So what does that mean? Among other things, ridership on buses and trains is rising about as fast as the price at the pump. Sioux City transit ridership is up 11%, Des Moines' DART is up 25% and the Mason City Transit is up 7.5%.
On this Iowa Journal, we discuss ridership on buses, alternatives to driving your car and what other gas-price-related items are quickly heading to the front- burner of many households across Iowa.
Our guests will be Tom Kane, Executive Director of the Des Moines Metropolitan Planning Organization and Brad Miller, General Manager of Des Moines Area Regional Transit Authority.
During our set up feature, we profile Mason City and Region 2 transit system to see how high fuel prices impacts them and their new riders.
Associated Press reporter David Pitt joins host Paul Yeager for an analysis of headline news affecting Iowans.
