Program: The Iowa Journal #161
Broadcast Date: May. 26, 2008
This episode of The Iowa Journal explores the American and U.N. involvement in Korea, 55 years after war's end.
Most Americans aren’t taught much about the Korean War, which was fought from 1950 through 1953, and caused millions of deaths. But, the effects of this ‘forgotten’ war still linger.
The Iowa Journal gives a quick history lesson about the war, and then discusses its ramifications with Senator Jack Kibbie. Senator Kibbie (Sergeant First Class) served during the Korean War as a tank commander stationed at Heartbreak Ridge along the 38th parallel. Now, as President of the Iowa Senate, he is working on establishing better methods for making sure all veterans obtain the benefits they're owed.
Radio Iowa’s Kay Henderson discusses veteran-related legislation that passed in this past session with host Paul Yeager.
