Discussion: Food vs. Fuel - Ethanol's Place in the Economy

Duration: 10:23

This episode of The Iowa Journal examines the debate over whether corn should be used for food or fuel.

Corn-based ethanol has caused a worldwide uproar in recent months. Critics have blamed the renewable fuel for high food costs, growing gas prices, and starvation in developing countries.

But the ethanol picture is not as simple as food versus fuel. In the studio to discuss these issues is Bruce Babcock, Director of the Center for Agriculture and Rural Development at Iowa State University.
