Duration: 02:54

Iowa needs workers, and immigrants want to fill that need. This episode examines the ways the state can encourage legal methods of importing the estimated 300,000 people needed to continue business as usual. Can a state like Iowa become the sponsor of temporary workers? What is possible within the constraints of existing federal law?

The Iowa Journal looks at the political climate surrounding legislative problem-solving of immigration issues, including the rejection of humanitarian legislative efforts such as the "Dream Act."

The Dream Act, once passed unanimously in the Republican-led Iowa House, was a bill to support the transition of undocumented children into adult life in the U.S.
