Program: The Iowa Journal #168
Broadcast Date: Jul. 17, 2008
Iowa Journal looks at the economic impact of general aviation in the state.
General Aviation is any flight that's not scheduled or military. That covers the majority of airports, flights and planes in the state.
Passengers in GA can often arrive at an airport just minutes before their flight and then be on a plane to their destination, thus cutting down on time wasted in security lines or delayed flights.
We look at the Council Bluffs Airport and what's made their last decade the best in the airport's history. Part of their success is the success of nearby Omaha's airport.
The Iowa DOT is currently conducting an economic survey of general aviation in the state.
Our in-studio discussion will include Tim Busch of Cedar Rapids who also is head of the Iowa Aviation Promotion Group and Michelle McEnany, director of the Iowa DOT's aviation office. The pair talks about making the case for General Aviation in Iowa, infrastructure needs and potential employment options.
News analyst Kay Henderson of Radio Iowa and host Paul Yeager talk about Gov. Culver's executive order on contractors' misclassification of employees, Iowa GOP state convention election of members of the Iowa Christian Alliance and Iowa Right to Life and Mike Huckabee's speech to the GOP convention and his political and work future.
