NATURE | My Life as a Turkey | A New Mother | PBS

Duration: 01:38
Program: Nature #2904
Broadcast Date: Nov. 16, 2011

Emerging from the shell, wild turkey chicks are introduced to an unusual mother, writer and naturalist Joe Hutto. After a local farmer left a bowl of eggs on Joe Hutto's front porch, his life was forever changed. Hutto, possessing a broad background in the natural sciences and an interest in imprinting young animals, incubated the eggs and waited for them to hatch. As the chicks emerged from their shells, they locked eyes with an unusual but dedicated mother. Based on his true story, "My Life as a Turkey" chronicles Hutto's remarkable and moving experience of raising a group of wild turkey hatchlings to adulthood. "My Life as a Turkey" premieres on PBS Wednesday November 16, 2011 at 8pm and is part of the 30th season of the Peabody and Emmy award-winning series produced by Thirteen in association with WNET.ORG for PBS. Major support provided by Canon USA Inc. www.pbs.org
