Program: The Iowa Journal #174
Broadcast Date: Sep. 5, 2008
Leading up to the 2008 elections, The Iowa Journal will run a series of programs examining Iowa’s five Congressional districts.
This first profile examines the 5th district, the state’s largest geographically, covering 32 counties along Iowa’s western-most border. With only two population centers, Sioux City and Council Bluffs, the district is primarily rural. The district is currently represented by Steve King (R-Kiron). His opponent in this year’s election is Rob Hubler.
The Journal will find out more about the district from reporters Art Cullen from the Storm Lake Times, and Mike Peterson, news director at KMA Radio Shenandoah, as well as county chair people from Orange City and Leon.
In the News Analysis, reporter Jeneane Beck and host Paul Yeager talk about the final report from Rebuild Iowa, the possibility of a special session and a bar in West Burlington that has drawn the attention of a the Attorney General's office with 48 complaints about Iowa's smokefree air act.
