Program: The Iowa Journal #178
Broadcast Date: Oct. 2, 2008
With the upcoming congressional race between incumbent Dave Loebsack (D) and Mariannette Miller-Meeks (R) from Ottumwa, "The Iowa Journal" takes a look at the issues facing the state's 2nd congressional district. The second district is comprised of 15 counties, mainly in southeast Iowa. As with many districts, the 2nd is as diverse as its geographic spread. But this year, most of the district has one common denominator: the floods of 2008. In addition to dealing with the aftermath of the floods, some of the communities are dealing with issues of immigration, international trade and tourism. To illustrate these issues, "The Iowa Journal" visits Cedar Rapids, Columbus Junction, Fort Madison, Centerville and Fairfield.
In the studio to talk about the district and the campaign for 2nd district Representative, are two political reporters: James Lynch of the Cedar Rapids Gazette and Matt Milner of the Ottumwa Courier.
