KQED | 2012 Asian Pacific American Local Hero - Gerrye Wong | PBS

Duration: 01:26

Gerrye Wong has been a passionate volunteer for the past 50 years working for many Asian American causes. One of her proudest achievements is co-founding the Chinese Historical and Cultural Project 25 years ago. In 1991, the project was gifted to the City of San Jose's Museum of Chinese American History in a reconstruction of the Ng Shing Gung temple, which stood in the city's active Chinatown from 1888-1940. Through the temple, more than 2500 visitors have been educated about the contributions of the Chinese to the history of Northern California. Wong serves on the board of directors of Asian Americans for Community Involvement and Angel Island Immigration Station Foundation.
