The Iowa Journal examines how the troubles on Wall Street are affecting Main Street. The program also profiles an Iowa community that, faced with its own economic crisis, has rebounded to become a center for entertainment and alternative energy.

The program also features a visit to Newton, where for more than a century the Maytag company played an integral roll. At its peak Maytag employed 4,000 workers in a community of some 16,000. The town faced its own economic crises when Maytag closed its doors in October of 2007.

The Iowa Journal explores how the community is rebuilding its work force and sense of identity. Newton has added nearly 1,400 new jobs, many of which are related to the wind industry. And the new Iowa Speedway is drawing tourism to the community.
