P. Allen Smith | Herbscaping with Columnar Basil | PBS

Duration: 00:59
Program: P. Allen Smith's Garden Home
Broadcast Date: Jul. 1, 2012

I really love working herbs into my landscaping -- even in container gardens! This Columnar Basil is a prime example of a way to add height and create an entry by using them in containers on opposite sides of these steps leading up to the kitchen. Now, these are annuals, but because they're so dense, they can be used in beds in a similar way that you would use an evergreen shrub. Because of their vertical (or columnar) growth, they also work well when used as a short hedge. I've really enjoyed having this fragrant herb with its interesting shape in my garden. So give it a try in yours -- you'll be glad you did!
