Matt Shankles testifies before the U.S. Senate hearing on bullying in schools on June 8, 2012, in Des Moines. Matt Shankles is a junior at Linn-Mar High School in Marion, Iowa. He has a strong interest in theater, performing in the Prep Instep Show Choir and retaining membership in the International Thespian Honor Society. Matt is also an advocate for safer schools, serving as Co-President of the school's Gay-Straight Alliance. He is the creator of a once-anonymous Twitter account to counteract bullying, @Linn_Mar_Love. Recently, Matt traveled to Washington, D.C. to attend a Gay, Lesbian & Straight Education Network (GLSEN) Safe Schools Advocacy Summit to advocate for the Safe Schools Improvement Act.
