Transcript (RTF)

Bill Amos landed on Omaha Beach several hours into the invasion of June 6, 1944 on an LCM landing craft. The amphibious tanks that were supposed to lead the invasion sank so the infantry had no protection. There were 20 soldiers from Ottumwa, Iowa in the same division that day, and only one received a minor wound. It was a good day to be from Ottumwa. Amos also fought in the forest at Ardennes, and marched through Russian territory, arriving in Berlin on July 1.
