(Premieres Tuesday, October, 23, 2012 at 8/7c) "On October 22 at 7 pm Eastern Daylight Time, President Kennedy gave the scariest speech ever given," says author and historian James G. Blight. "I defy anybody to find one that scared more people more profoundly than that speech." In a televised address to the nation and the world, Kennedy reveals for the first time that the US is aware of the missiles in Cuba. Sergei Khrushchev says his father asked the members of the Soviet leadership to watch the speech at the Kremlin and feared that the US would invade Cuba. Ted Sorensen, who wrote the speech, talks about the language of the speech, which indicated that we "were prepared to do what we had to do if we had to do it." Kennedy indicates that if a nuclear missile is fired from Cuba against any nation in the Western hemisphere it will be interpreted as a Soviet attack on the US and will trigger a full retaliatory response.
