The NewsHour interviewed then Gen. Norman Schwarzkopf, commander of "Operation Desert Shield" in September 1990, only six weeks after Iraq's invasion of Kuwait. Watch this excerpt, pulled from the NewsHour archives, in which former NewsHour correspondent Charlayne Hunter-Gault asked him whether a pre-emptive strike outside of the calculus of the U.S. Army stationed in Saudi Arabia.
