More than 1,000 career options are associated with an apprenticeship program - where the apprentice can "earn while they learn." It is a cost-effective means of obtaining higher education in a classroom as well as hands-on training in a job they may hold for years to come.

This is a profile of the Plumbers and Steamfitters Local #33 apprentice program in Des Moines, where the 2009-2010 enrollment stands at 230 students.
