Roy Burgess and Alexei Sokolenko - Russian Art Exchange Visit

Duration: 20:00

Jefferson, Iowa artist Roy Burgess hosts the visit of Stavropol artist, Alexei Sokolenko in this 1989 video story. It originally aired in April of 1990 on Iowa Public Television.

Producer Clay Smith and camera traveled with Sokolenko and interpreter, Victor Degtorenko, from Kansas City, Missouri to Jefferson, Iowa and documented their "First Glance" at our Midwestern American home.

They made a stop at a buckskinner's weekend, giving the Russian visitors a taste of Iowa's past.

The visit also included opportunities for Sokolenko to show his artwork in several locations. Burgess had visited Russia the year before, as part of an artists exchange meant to help Americans and Russians forge friendships.
