Produce Unit Train Links West Coast Farmers with East Coast Food Distributors Part 1

Duration: 06:46

The auto industry isn’t the only transportation sector the Obama Administration is hoping to overhaul.

As part of his massive $787 billion economic stimulus package, the President allocated $8 billion to establish high-speed rail corridors nationwide. While Obama’s plan focuses primarily on passenger transportation, freight railroad efficiency has increased dramatically over the past 25 years.

A case in point can be found on the west coast where a pair of train routes collectively known as the “Fresh Express” is connecting farmers to consumers on the East Coast.
