Program: A Promise Called Iowa
Wayne Johnson provides the legal definition of a refugee. He also explains how someone who escapes their home country with little to their name can demonstrate they are indeed a refugee, someone at risk in their home country.
Wayne Johnson was the bureau chief at the Iowa Bureau of Refugee Services from March 1989 until January 2007 when he retired. He first visited Southeast Asia in the Peace Corps, and has had a long career working with refugees.
