A Visit with Shawn Johnson

Meet Shawn Johnson, the 15 year-old rising star of gymnastics, who recently won the Pan American Games' all-around gymnastics title. Johnson also helped carry the U.S. women to team gold and won two gold medals and a silver in the individual apparatus events. The U.S. won a total of six gold medals in artistic gymnastics at the Games which took place in Rio de Janeiro July 8-18. Johnson is training for the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing. Coming up next, Johnson will compete in the U.S. Championships in August and the World Championships in September. The U.S. Olympic Team Trials are in June of 2008 followed by the Olympics in August. Assignment Iowa sat down with Johnson in late May, as she was preparing for her grueling summer schedule.
