Research guides development of school leaders

Duration: 01:09

We do know that a leader who is in a building who exhibits the behavior and we have researched now that tells us which behaviors can influence student achievement. Those who practice those behaviors we do see an increase in student test scores and in student learning. So, that's been researched now.

We now know we have to move that to practice because having it in research really doesn't make a difference unless we move it into our practice of your school building leaders and our superintendents, and we have a great deal of training going on across the state to help our principals.
We have evaluator approval programs where we really look at how are you evaluating your teachers, what kind of behaviors really make a difference for you, as an evaluator what kind of data do you need to examine in order to help the teachers get better. Because evaluation is not just about telling you you're ok. It really is about growth if you're doing it right.
