Fair 2007: Cow Chip Throw

Duration: 04:00
Play in External Player

Fairgoers had a chance to put their throwing arms to the test this week at Pioneer Hall for the traditional Cow Chip Throw. If you're a spectator, a sharp eye and nimble feet are a must, if you want to avoid wearing any contest leftovers. For contestants, the trick is in picking just the right chip. Interesting side note: rumor has it that the cow chips used in the contest don't actually come from Iowa, but from Texas. Apparently, our state's climate doesn't allow for the right kind of "curing," that results in a dry and proper consistency for a good toss.
