World War II Veteran: Merton L. Jessen “Stub”

Transcript (RTF)

Stub Jessen served with the 28th Division, 707 tank battalion 110th infantry 1942 – 1945. He tells us about being captured following the Battle of the Bulge. He was one of 2000 prisoners forced to march for 128 days. They started in Luxembourg and ended in Brunswick, Germany about 950 miles away. He says the worst part of being a prisoner was the hunger part. They got one thick piece of bread every 2 or 3 days. Stub went from 160 to 95 pounds. Stub has no bitterness against the German people, except the SS troopers. He can’t believe anybody could be that mean.
