Transcript (RTF)

Ed O’Connor found it difficult to study engineering at Iowa State in 1942 with the draft just around the corner. So he enlisted in the parachute troops and was inducted into the Army at Camp Dodge. He served as an officer in the third platoon of the 250 engineer combat battalion company A. They landed on Omaha beach at night, and made their way across France into Belgium and Holland. Besides maintaining the MSR – main supply route – Ed’s battalion built various bridges for troop and heavy equipment movement.
