Transcript (RTF)

Bob Benson was farming with his father on 200 acres near Story City. The army deferred him. When it was his time to go, Bob joined the Navy and served aboard the U.S.S. Chincoteague, a seaplane tender with a crew of about 200 men. They used their anti-aircraft guns mostly for sinking mines. Bob tells us that his tour of duty taught him that it takes a lot of people to make up the world, and there sure is a lot of water in the Pacific.
