Collection: Assignment Iowa: The State of Immigration
The recent Swift and Company raids in Marshalltown have placed the immigration issue front and center once again. But beyond the headlines, what is immigration’s real impact on the state? In this edition of Assignment Iowa, we hear from those who study it, those who control it, and those who live it, on immigration’s economic, educational and social implications, as well as what this most recent wave of immigrants is bringing to life in Iowa. We'll take a snapshot of Storm Lake as that community continues to adapt to its growing immigrant population. Economist Neil Harl gives the issue a global perspective. And we get a glimpse of just what is involved in legally immigrating to the United States. Guests Max Cardenas and U. S. Representative Steve King discuss the issues.
