Kicking off a series of occasional programs about civility in public discourse is an address by former Iowa Congressman and current National Endowment for the Humanities Chairman Jim Leach, who earlier this year launched what he calls a “civility tour” of the U.S., aimed at sparking a nationwide conversation and discussion about the importance of civility in public debate.
Leach outlined his views before Iowa civic and political leaders at a June 18 luncheon in the auditorium at the Principal Financial Group headquarters in Des Moines. In this full program, IPTV's Paul Yeager frames the discussion, which includes Leach’s speech, questions and answers from the audience, and an interview with Leach.
